It is forbidden to drive a motor vehicle in Iceland after drinking alcoholic beverages.

Can all of Blue Car Rentals cars drive on F-roads?

No. Only our 4X4 cars can drive on F-roads.

Is it dangerous to drive F-roads?

F-roads or mountain roads as we call them are not dangerous. However they are gravel roads and some of them have rivers. We therefore recommend being very cautious and well prepared before choosing to drive an F-road.

When do F-roads open?

They usually opens in middle of June. However it can change year by year and we recommend you check road.is to see if the road you were planning on driving is open.

All our car have incident reports in the glove box. Please fill it out with the driver of the other car. If you and the other driver don´t agree on what happened it´s always best to call 112 and request the police.

Keep this in mind in order to prevent being fined and/or charged related cost such as handling fees when payments aren´t made when required.

Damage to doors caused by wind

Try to park the car so the doors will open against the wind and hold tight to the doors.

Small dents on doors caused by renters or third party driver

Of course you can´t completely avoid this. Our tip is to choose you parking space well since this usually happens at parking spots.

Windshields

Many of our customers get cracks in their windshield. It both can cost extra money and block your view. Our tip is to keep a good distance to the next car and slow down while driving gravel roads.

Icy and snowy roads

We often experience „Black Ice“ on the roads early in the morning or late at night so keep this in mind as it creates the most dangerous conditions. The roads can also be covered in snow. Although most of the main roads are either scraped or salted it is usually not enough.

*Please note: Pay close attention to the road conditions when the temperature is around 0-4 °C and when the weather is still.

Reduced speed

The speed limit set at each point applies only during the best conditions. When driving on icy or snowy roads, reducing the speed is vital. It is more complicated to control the car under these circumstances and an incorrect reaction can cause the driver to lose control of the car.

*Please note: When you are driving on icy- or snowy roads the breaking distance increases significantly, even if the car has studded winter tires!

Remove the snow

There are ice scrapers in all of our cars. During the winter it is highly important to remove snow and ice from the windscreen, windows, mirrors and lights. Make sure that the wipers are also clean and fully functional.

The wiper blades can be frozen to the windscreen so make sure you carefully pull them away from the screen and then remove the snow. Otherwise it can damage the wipers and the motor.

River crossing

Before crossing a river or a water make sure that no other route is possible! Be extremely careful when crossing rivers or water as it can be dangerous and the simplest mistake can drown the car.

Drive very slowly but without hesitation so that water doesn´t reach and damage the engine or electrical system of the car. Use 1st or 2nd gear only, never take your foot of the gas and never apply the clutch in the middle of the river.
