First day on Iceland - Let’s go to Vik

When we landed on Keflavik Airport we went to get our car at Blue Car Rental - a Land Rover
Defender. The number one adventure car in the world, our dream car. The office is just located
next to the terminal so the pick up went quick and easy.
After the car checkout we went straight to Road 1 towards Vik on the south west coast of Iceland.
You will find plenty of good stops for photographing between Keflavik Airport and Vik, for example
this huge waterfall Skogafoss.
You can climb up to a nice view point on the top of the waterfall, impressive view.
Another famous and beautiful waterfall close to the road is Seljalandsfoss with a ”secret” waterfall
next to the big one that I think is even cooler. The water falls in to a huge cave. In the cave it is big
rock that you can stand on and look at tons of water falling down over your head. Perfect location
for Instagram shooting.
On the way to Vik you will also pass beautiful Dyrhólaey.
The view is amazing and you will see black sand beach to the north the big glacier Mýrdalsjökull.
To the east, the black lava columns of the Reynisdrangar come out of the sea, and to the west the
whole coastline in the direction of Selfoss is visible - depending on weather conditions.
When we were done with three different water falls we went to our hotel just outside Vik. We can
really recommend Country Hotel Hofdabrekka Hotel. Nice and clean hotel with great food and a
nice pool with great view.
