Yes, it’s that time of year again! After a somewhat odd (ok, rather bizarre) 2020, we are so happy that 2021 was an excellent year for us. We honestly didn’t know what to expect.
In 2021 Iceland was pretty much open, and many people from all over the world chose to visit. The travelers we spoke to were ecstatic with their decision and said they experienced more peace and freedom here than expected. That was our experience, and we’re very thankful for feeling mostly ok amidst the chaos.
The best distraction of 2021
Our little volcano was the high point of the year 2021 for Icelanders and, we’d like to believe, the whole world that was watching it live on tv and webcams. It was the perfect “tourist eruption” since people could get very, very close to it to see the fiery spectacle, smell the sulfur and touch the warm lava—a very welcome distraction from you-know-what.
We’re enjoying the advent!
We love the holidays. There are so many fun Icelandic traditions to follow in December. We’ve baked a ton of cookies, scared little children with Santa trolls (just kidding, they’re harmless now), enjoyed hot chocolate on a lovely stroll down the Laugavegur shopping street, and made lovely laufabrauð Christmas bread with our families.
